May 11-12 American Le Mans Monterey Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is home to the 2012 American Le Mans Monterey. Like any Le Mans weekend, the Monterey Sports Car Championship is packed with thrilling races, featuring the American Le Mans Series Saturday afternoon-into-evening six hour race into the darkness.

May 17-20 Carmel Art Festival Carmel-by-the-Sea highlights its artist colony origins with the 19th Annual Carmel Art Festival. Centered around the visual arts, the festival features sculpture in Devendorf Park, a juried plein air painting competition, art activities for children, live performances and more.

May 19-20 Castroville Artichoke Festival The 53rd Castroville Artichoke Festival is a commemoration of all things artichoke. The event has artichoke cooking demos, tours of artichoke farms, artichoke-themed art and souvenirs (and a contest to make art out of actual artichokes!), an artichoke parade, a race through the artichoke fields, a classic car show, a wine exposition, and of course artichokes prepared in every way imaginable.
