Would definitely stay there again...

"Very Nice, great location, we walked all over even during the night. The room was very nice and all the help was very nice and helpful. When we checked int the front desk person gave us all kinds of info which really helped. Would definetly stay there again and would recommend to anyone who was going to Monterey."

Overall Downtown Travelodge can't be beat

We had a great experience at this hotel and would recommend it highly. The location was so convenient, we hardly ever used the car. Walked to great restaurants and all the sights. We could even walk to the aquarium on the bike path. The room was good-sized and the beds were firm and comfortable. The location right next to a gas station and on a busy corner had us nervous about noise, but things quieted down at night (with the exception of the very loud garbage truck at 5 AM) and we slept well. Missing from the hotel's list of recommended breakfast places is The Wild Plum which is just up Munras. We ate the best pancakes we've ever had in our lives and the other baked goods were equally scrumptious. Wild Plum would be a great spot for lunch too. Overall Downtown Travelodge can't be beat for the price!

Well Equipped

Good quality motel at the town end of the street, so much closer than you think to the town center. Convenient and has additional parking underground. Check-in person was friendly and the area was good. Room itself was a good size, comfortable and well equipped including safe, ironing board, Travelodge toiletries. All clean. Could have done with another blanket for the bed. Felt secure and enjoyed the stay. Breakfast was large with breads, cheese and jam, yoghurt, cereal, tea, coffee, juice etc. Friendly check-out and hotel is located next to a petrol station. It was a quality place and good value.

We were really impressed by this Travelodge.

We spent four great nights at the Downtown Monterey Travelodge in January. Weather was sunny and perfect - higher temps than usual for late January. Our room was super clean and super quiet. Bed was very comfortable - seemed brand new. Shower was great - plenty of hot water - clean fresh new towels - TV worked great - heater and air conditioner were flawless ... in-room coffee maker was convenient. In other words all the basic yet important amenities that you expect to work did indeed work perfectly! And this hotel is so centrally located. Easy driving distance to Aquarium, Carmel, Pacific Grove, Cannery Row, etc. Walking distance to downtown Monterey - there is even a brand new Trader Joe's a few short blocks away (next door to a Peet's coffee!). We found this to be super convenient if we wanted to grab some apples or juice or sandwich or wine or whatever and bring it back to our room. Another thing we appreciated was the complimentary continental breakfast in the hotel lobby - this helped us get out the door efficiently when we wanted to get an early start - without having to take the time and expense to deal with restaurants. (But if we wanted to eat breakfast out, there are a number of restaurants within walking distance, ranging from a Denny's to upscale.) In summary: we've stayed at this Downtown Travelodge twice in the past. We love the central location and and can't over-emphasize how clean and well maintained our rooms have always been. All in all, I did enjoy my stay at your Travelodge while I visited my daughter in town. All of your staff were so nice--your front office folks were so friendly and helpful. I chose this one for the location, breakfast and wireless. The location is of course perfect for walking anywhere--I was so glad not have to rent a car, and with the Airbus, even getting to the airport was a breeze. The The Bear Bites breakfast was very yummy, and very the entry room so sunny and bright for eating. I got quite of bit of my writing done--the writing table was a great size and with the wireless, I stayed nicely connected with the rest of the world. That bed was so comfortable! The TV was a treat--I still have the old style at home. At first I wanted the room to be just a bit bigger, but really, it was just the right size for me. The little booklet at the front desk with current events and the little maps were very helpful. The only thing I would have otherwise looked for was the one page tourist map--but I found one in the cafe on the main street. Thanks for a great stay in Monterey!

Group leader from San Diego... We had a Great time and I have still been very busy this is the first chance to Thank you so much for everything. 1st. It was very very nice to get a voice mail of welcome from you. As you said, your beds were very comfortable. Everybody remarked as to just how soft and comfortable, we slept like logs. Your Staff, was most gracious and accommodating. Your underground parking kept the fog off our chrome bikes. I would highly recommend your hotel to all travelers and hope that in the future I also will staying again. Thank you so much, MRPHIL (Biggs HOG Chapter)

The front desk person who helped us on April 3, 2007 was extremely helpful..She did everything she could to get us rooms and make us comfortable. She even checked on us the next day to make sure everything was okay. She went above and beyond her duty to take care of us and helped turn what started out as a rocky vacation into an enjoyable one. Her service was very much appreciated... Sandra S. 4/3 - 4/04/07

...We stayed at the Travelodge Friday and Sat night. we were greeted by a great manager and he was very helpful in telling us all of the dos and don'ts of Monterey. We had no expectations, I spent most of my time planning the Napa portion of our trip. Our room had recently been redone and we were excited to find great new beds, frig, TV that worked and a big fan along with the new ac unit. I love fans just for white noise but it was really not noisy here. We parked in the underground parking and never moved our car till we left Sunday morning. We took the bus that is close by to Carmel, great move because parking is impossible there. This hotel was clean, close to everything, in a safe area and the coffee, pastry and fruit in the morning were just an added bonus. This was a great deal for the money, loved not having to drive, 10 min walk to fishermen's wharf, five min to Mucky Duck Pub... thanks for the tip!!! The walk to Cannery row was less than 25 but kept stopping to look at the sea lions. We will be back! ...Room was in great shape and was very pleasant. Excellent bed, good location... was an excellent stay with underground parking, elevator, and a friendly staff.

...it has everything you find in more expensive hotels: golf channel, frig, hair dryer, ironing board/iron ,tv guide, in room coffee, extra towels. It also has very comfortable pillow top mattresses on the beds. It is clean and not too noisy. They also have free wireless internet. You can easily walk to Alvarado Street where there are lots of restaurants, shops, etc.

...my girlfriend and I booked a room here the night before we came up for a weekend, and I was very happy with the motel. We usually stay in nicer places, but the room was a good deal, so we went for it. It was very clean, and the bed was quite comfortable. It is also in a great spot where it only takes a few minutes to walk to downtown and the wharf. I don't go on vacation to hang out in the room, but this place pleasantly surprised the both of us.

...if you want a clean, serviceable room that is comparable to most U.S. motels, then this is a solid value. The location is right at the start of downtown, close to restaurants and shopping. The Monterey Aquarium is an easy, scenic 20-minute walk away.

Beautiful hotel, LOVE the colors it is painted, perfect for the seaside, and the 'old brick' looks awesome, very 40's, but in overall great condition. Keep it this way.
